Cantilever Beam

Cantilever Beam

The elastic cantilever beam is one of the elementary structures used in MEMS designs.

This model shows the bending of a cantilever beam under an applied electrostatic load. This is computed from the electric field that is solved in the deforming geometry/mesh domain using the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation.

The model solves the deformation of the beam under a given voltage and also sweeps the voltage to give an estimate for the pull-in voltage of the beam. It does this in 2D, using the slave-master approach for mesh deformation, as well as in 3D.
